I am requesting your approval to attend HCA’s Annual Conference in Saratoga on May 9-11.

This year’s event includes several sessions that will directly benefit our organization in very concrete ways, substantially outweighing the cost and time investment for me to attend.

The conference this year (for HCA’s 40th anniversary) includes an opportunity to learn how to implement the new Advanced Home Health Aide law which will have major implications for the assignment and oversight of aide-level staff. It also offers several clinical topics on medication reconciliation and hospital avoidance for patients with dementia as well as chronic-care strategies using home telehealth, all of which are necessary for our work under new models of care. There’s a session on process improvements for meeting the home health Conditions of Participation, which is a major new set of regulations that we are still working to navigate as an organization.

Also, I will learn about the requirements of the Paid Family Leave Law for our payroll and human resources work, as well as workforce recruitment and retention strategies from a recruitment expert in the home health and hospice fields. NAHC President Bill Dombi will be sharing his unparalleled strategic expertise on the Washington front, and HCA has succeeded in getting the state Health Commissioner to attend and share his specific visions for home care, hospice and Managed Long Term Care.

These are just a few of the nearly 20 education program choices on the agenda.

Following the conference, I intend to discuss the information gained from each of these issue areas with the relevant HR, finance, compliance and clinical management teams, including copies of slide presentations and a summary of insights so that I am further extending the value of this program back to our organization.
